ERV Evropská covers the risks associated with COVID-19 also black destinations, personal quarantine is recognised as a reason for Trip Cancellation

ERV Evropská continues to offer travel insurance options that apply to the risks associated with COVID-19 also in orange, (dark) red, unmarked and black destinations. Further in the text you will find which options these are. When you arrange other insurance options, they will apply to COVID-19 risks only in destinations marked in green.

Most of our types of cancellation insurance also apply to a situation where, in connection with COVID-19, you are ordered personal preventive quarantine (due to contact with an infected person) extending to the originally planned date of travel.

We recommend that you regularly check information on the risk status of individual destinations on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic (CS). Trips to areas that are marked as war areas or was banned from travelling by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or another state administration are not covered by the insurance at all.

In countries with an increased risk of COVID-19 infection, our ability to assist clients may be limited due to the current situation and congestion of the health system. The riskier the destination, the more difficult our chances of help may be.

SingleTrip travel insurance (online, telephone and personal sales, partner tour operators)

All SingleTrip options cover COVID-19 treatment in low-risk (green) destinations. In order to be insured for COVID-19 risks even in orange, (dark) red, black or unassigned destinations, you have to arrange COVID Plus extension.

Emergency Situations will cover situations when you have to extend your stay abroad due to unintentional quarantine or failure to meet the health conditions for the return journey (e.g. not being allowed on board). Deductible is 20%.

For the time being you can arrange cancellation insurance only in the Cancellation Plus option. It covers situations when you have to cancel your trip due to your COVID-19 illness. In addition, it covers also personal preventive quarantine in connection with COVID-19 interfering with the planned departure. The insurance does not cover flat-rate quarantine. It still applies to situations where you fail to meet the health conditions on your departure from Czechia (e.g. airport check).

MultiTrip annual travel insurance

In order to be insured for COVID-19 during non-essential (e.g. leisure) trips even in orange, (dark) red, unmarked and black countries, arrange MultiTrip Premium.

Variant Comfort and Corporate covers risk associated with COVID-19 only in destination marked green. When you travel to orange, (dark) red, black and unassigned countries arrange SingleTrip with COVID Plus extension. If you already have our MultiTrip insurance, you will get single trip insurance with a significant discount.

Travel insurance for trips of tour operators and fly tickets

In order to be insured for COVID-19 risks even in orange, (dark) red, unmarked and black destinations, you have to choose a designated special insurance variant from the tour operator’s offer. Other insurance variants do not apply to COVID-19, but they do cover the other risks. If you need advice on which variants are the right ones, contact the travel operator, fly ticket provider or our client centre (klient@ERVpojistovna.cz, 221 860 860).

These special insurance variants cover additional situations when you have to extend your stay abroad due to unintentional quarantine or failure to meet the health conditions for the return journey (e.g. not being allowed on board). Deductible is 20%.

Special insurance packages arranged with tour operators or fly ticket providers cover situations when you have to cancel your trip due to your COVID-19 illness. They can now cover (according to product variant) also personal preventive quarantine in connection with COVID-19 interfering with the planned departure. The insurance does not cover flat-rate quarantine. It still applies to situations where you fail to meet the health conditions on your departure from Czechia (e.g. airport check).

BusinessTravel corporate insurance

All our corporate travel insurance products also cover COVID-19 illness. We consider business or study trips to be essential, so the insurance applies to COVID-19 during trips to orange, (dark) red, unmarked or black destinations.

FAQ

In which countries does the insurance also cover COVID-19 risks?
Specific types of our insurance (e.g. SingleTrip with COVID Plus extension, special tour operator packages, MultiTrip Premium) apply to COVID-19 also in destinations other than those marked in green. Other insurance options will apply to COVID-19 risks only in destinations marked in green. Travel to areas that are marked as war areas or was banned from travelling by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or another state administration are not covered by the insurance at all.

Which colour of the destination is decisive – at the time of buying the insurance or at the time of departure?
The decisive factor for the validity of your insurance is what colour (according to the traffic light of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Health) the destination has at the time of your departure.

What if the country where I’m going to travel shifts to a high-risk category?
When you have arranged selected types of our insurance (e.g. SingleTrip with COVID Plus extension, special tour operator packages, MultiTrip Premium), you need not be concerned when the colour classification of the destination changes. If the destination classification changes from green to another for other types of our insurance before your departure, you have the option to insure a higher variant (e.g. Sbaleno The Max, special packages with TO), which will apply to COVID-19 in orange, (dark) red, unmarked or black destinations.

Where can I find information on how risky the individual countries are?
On the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (CS), you will find information on the general risk status of countries, e.g. due to wars or riots, and on our website we indicate whether we classify them as war areas.
On the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Ministry of Health (CS), you will find the classification of countries according to the risk of COVID-19 infection.

What if the government forbids travel to a country?
Trips to areas that was banned from travelling by Ministry of Foreign Affairs or another state administration are not covered by the insurance at all. It is not decisive whether the travel ban is due to war, civil unrest, natural disaster or the risk of COVID-19.

Where can I find information about COVID restriction in Europe?
Frequently updated information about COVID restriction in European Union countries can be found at https://reopen.europa.eu/cs. You can find here information about quarantine, testing or travelers, digital COVID pass etc. in Czech and 23 other languages.

What should I do if I have COVID-19 symptoms abroad?
Contact our assistance service or the TO delegate to recommend where to go for testing. When your illness is confirmed, we will reimburse you for the necessary treatment costs as if it were any other illness.

What if they put me in quarantine abroad, even though I'm not COVID positive?
If you have arranged our insurance including the so-called emergencies or return prevention, we will reimburse you for the costs of an extended stay abroad and substitute return travel. Depending on the insurance variant, the limits are CZK 7,500 or CZK 15,000 for each of these two situations. Deductible is 20%.

What does quarantine abroad look like?
When quarantined abroad, follow the regulations of local authorities and inform our assistance service. The length of stay in quarantine is determined by the rules of each country. Local authorities or hotel will also determine whether you will spend the quarantine at the hotel or whether you will be transferred to a special quarantine facility. Our assistance service has no authority to interfere with these decisions. However, they will help you arrange possible tests or air tickets before returning to the Czech Republic.

What happens to the rest of the family if only one of us tests positive abroad?
The rules vary from country to country. In some, local authorities quarantine only the COVID positive person, in others the whole family. Our assistance service has no authority to interfere with these decisions. From the point of view of insurance, a COVID positive travel participant is entitled to standard reimbursement for medical expenses and assistance service. If a minor is positive, one adult can stay with him or her abroad as a so-called guardian. The remaining, not quarantined, family members should travel home.

Will you pay for my COVID test abroad from my insurance?
If you have symptoms of COVID-19 abroad that will endanger your health, we will pay for the tests from the medical expenses insurance. However, the insurance does not cover random or preventive tests, tests required on the basis of current anti-epidemic measures announced in the Czech Republic or abroad (e.g. for entry to a destination or return to the Czech Republic). It does not apply either to tests set by a transport or airline company as a condition of departure.

What if I already have had COVID or I am vaccinated against it?
The fact that you have had COVID-19 or have been vaccinated against it does not affect your insurance. It is therefore entirely up to you to decide whether you want to be sure and arrange a type of insurance that will protect you in a case of coronavirus, or whether you take the risk of COVID positivity. However, we experienced that even some vaccinated or cured clients had a positive test for COVID-19 abroad and had to undergo quarantine or even hospitalization there. Therefore, we recommend you to choose insurance that covers COVID-19 in destinations other than those marked in green.

Can I apply trip cancellation if I have a positive COVID-19 test before the trip?
Yes, cancellation insurance (e.g. Cancellation Plus, special packages with TO) also covers your coronavirus illness. In the event of illness of one family member (parents and dependent children) who was supposed to be a participant in the trip, the remaining family members can also claim cancellation insurance.

What if I am not ill, but I have to be quarantined before the trip?
The selected variants of cancellation insurance (e.g. Cancellation Plus, special packages with TO) cover even this situation. You can apply the cancellation insurance when you are ordered personal preventive quarantine in connection with COVID-19 (due to contact with an infected person) according to the decision of the competent administrative authority or doctor. The condition is that the quarantine must interfere with the date of the originally planned departure.

Does the cancellation insurance also apply to the closure of an area, district or city?
No, the insurance does not cover flat-rate quarantine, i.e. for the whole state, region, district, municipality, street, school or company.

I am afraid of the situation in the country where I am going to travel, can I use the cancellation?
No. The mere fear of coronavirus in the area where you are going to travel is not a reason to accept cancellation.
